Sunday Morning by David Black
Sunday Morning collection by David Blacka fashion designer based in Glasgow, UK. Recently graduated from Heriot Watt University, with BA Hons Fashion Design for Industry. The designer launched his fashion label House of Black to pursue his own vision of fashion. Sunday Morning collection was based on the theme of clashing of peace and aggression, the idea of a bad girl gone good, an elegant girl with a bad girl attitude. Photos by Daniela Flores Photography. Here is how everything started, the research photos to visualize the design concept. From “Howl” by Allen Ginsberg, Kill Bill, Childhood memories of Sunday School services, the paintings of Giovanni Tiepolo to George Orwell’s “1984″.
Sunday Morning features a woman’s ready to wear collection. David explored using a hand dye technique on various textile surfaces to create refreshing color combinations and intricate patterns. My personal favorite is the chiffon peter pan collar shirt printed with a painting by Giovanni Tiepolo. I remembered seeing David Black’s all black collection a year ago during a fashion show where he used wool to create a collection of very chic and structured dresses, he continued his love for this special textile when he created an oversized coat.
He was recently nominated for Scottish Graduate of the Year, sponsored by Marks & Spencers, at the Scottish Fashion Awards 2012.
Personally, I think David Black is one of these rare designers who will always surprise his audience by his experimental approach to design, I used to assume that he is a minimalist with full attention to tailoring, and that structure and a vibrant print would never come to mind, but I was wrong. One certain thing is that striking BLACK attitude.
Well done! David. Looking forward to seeing your next collection.
