Euston to central and back again
I just can not believe the fact that my calendar says it is thursday today. Where has my week gone? I need to steal more time somewhere to finish all the tasks written down in my diary. Hopefully you all had a moderate busy week so far unlike me having to run a race with time especially with my huge portfolios running up and down from London to Glasgow.
On the 11th last friday was a great day! I got 2 very very nice surprises when I checked my mail box, they were invitations to go to Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen for an interview and a trial day as a summer intern. Its after days and days of expectation every time I refresh my mail box when I thought neither of them would happen. To be understated is very important but I still spent most of my monday talking with friends about how nervous, excited and happy I am so that I used about 50% of my weeks energy already. The next day I managed to get on the Glasgow to London train on time at 4:30am and fell asleep quickly but was woken up by a tapping keyboard noise, when I opened my eyes, there were all these ladies and gents sitting around me dressed up very smart for work with very shining black shoes, busy typing and then at 10:00 like in sync with each other started to make phone calls. It took me quite a while to navigate myself to the Westwood studio after all the reading maps and changing tubes but I actually very proud of myself that I managed to make it as my sense of direction is non existent in any part of my brain! But I really don’t like the tube at all, the air pressure along with the coming of the train guarantees to mess up the hair you have spent all morning doing so nicely. It actually doesn’t take that long on the tube but it is the fact that some of the stations seem to have the longest escalators ever conceived and the amount of advertising is ridiculous. Anyway, I was greeted by a very lovely lady at Vivienne Westwoods studio and did a few hours work and had a wee chat, hopefully I will hear back from them soon. Next day I went to Alexander McQueen and while i was there was asked to do some work it started with a B and finish with a D, and thats all i can say about that ( aka Forrest Gump), Oh i also had another wee chat, hopefully I will hear back form them soon.
Oh on a side note, there was a huge polar bear in Alexander McQueen’s reception. I didn’t realise until then that polar bears are that huge since they look all soft and small from TV, I think he was only visiting maybe a model casting because he was posing sort of like in the picture below (pic from telegraph). Every time I walked by it I had to move away slightly as it was so life like and scary. I discussed with another intern at our lunch break at a nice corner cafe about the bear, whether he is stuffed real of synthetic, we don’t have a clue, just that he’s big and certainly makes a statement.
On another side note, So many people walking so slowly in silence trying to change from one Bank to another Bank. Do you know that film called The island where clones of people walk so stifly navigated by signs in one direction and another. It feels like that. I was so released when I saw Old Street underneath Bath! But after 5 attempts at trying to squeeze onto the tube, with too many people crammed in already and not being able to squeeze in, I finally had to be more forceful since I needed to make the 10:00 am Mcqueen interview. By that time, my poor hand had just about lost all feeling carrying the heavy portfolio. I recommend to anybody who could create some sort of pull able portfolio and take it to the Dragon’s Dan since I would definitely be the first to buy one.
Next stop tomorrow will be Edinburgh, then pick up jewellery from Bonnie Bling for the causal refinement photoshoot on sunday morning. I am very tired at the moment but still very much looking forward to the rest of the week. Hopefully everything went well so that I can show you all about the meeting in Edinburgh and the sunday shoot. Hope you all have a very smooth rest of the week and a nice weekend.
